It is with profound regret that Parkinson’s Resources (PRO) announces the September 10, 2017 Sole Support for Parkinson’s event in Bend has been cancelled due to extremely poor air quality conditions in Central Oregon. As always, the health and safety of people living with Parkinson’s, our event participants, sponsors, and volunteers is PRO’s highest priority. This situation is disappointing for all involved, as it was to be our first of this kind in the area.
After consultation with local officials, every available forecast, and health professionals, predicted weather and smoke through the weekend does not instill confidence that we can move forward with the walks without severely compromising the quality of the experience for our clients and event participants.
In lieu, of our planned walk, we invite you to join us for a celebration brunch October 23rd. We will send out details of this event to all registered walk participants in the next few days and leading up to the brunch to capture new registrants. In the meantime, if you have earned (by raising $100 or more) a Sole Support t-shirt, those will be available in our Bend office. Please contact Carol Pfeil to arrange an office visit 541.668.6599. Otherwise, we will look forward to handing you your t shirt at brunch, October 23rd.
While we are extremely disappointed and concerned for everyone impacted by these fires, PRO’s mission continues and we will not let these fires dampen the spirit of the Central Oregon Parkinson’s community. This was very disappointing after so much support, energy, and enthusiasm that went into establishing the success of our first Sole Support in Bend. Even though we will not be stepping out on Parkinson’s together this Sunday, we can still work together to meet our goal of raising the awareness and financial support in the fight against Parkinson’s and the community it affects.
On behalf of the PRO board of directors and staff, thank you to the dedicated volunteers in Bend who worked tirelessly on the success of this event. With theirr efforts, we have raised awareness and financial support of the new Parkinson’s services in Central Oregon. Thank you!
Please share this information with anyone you think might have been planning to join us. If you would be so kind as to reply to this email we will make note to not continue follow up via phone.
