Wow, does time fly, this will be our third year participating in this amazing event. Last year I was once again overwhelmed and humbled by your response and words of love and encouragement (we were the top fundraisers for Bend!), thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am here to ask you for your support again.
It's been three years since my diagnosis, I am thankful to say that the disease has progressed slowly for me over that past few years. I have good days and bad days, but in this third year I have learned how to better manage my life. I had a tough time at first, admitting that I couldn't do everything. I have learned that it's OK to say "regretfully no" or that I am just not going to have the perfectly cleaned house, and that daily naps are a must. We have also made our family and life experiences a priority. We aren't going to put things off, we are going to enjoy life and our kids.
There are many wonderful organizations that support the Parkinson's community. The reason my family and I choose to walk with PRO is because they provide the local support I need for my everyday life. I am so fortunate that PRO has a local office in my little town. They provide support groups, exercise groups, and educational conferences, not to mention the camaraderie of people fighting the same battle. I also bring my kids to my PD events (I think they are now considered mascots), they get hugs and high fives at these events. Through these events they are learning more about this disease, learning compassion, and how to help and be part of a community. Parkinson's Resources of Oregon makes it possible for me to maintain my active busy exhausting everyday life.
My family is committed to dedicating our time to raise awareness and funds for the Parkinson's Community. So. How do you help? Walk with me, encourage me, or make a donation. We are glad to be part of this community and we are looking forward to being a part of the Sole Support Walk. Thank You!
