This will be my fourth 5K walk with the Parkinson’s community and I’m so glad Sole Support has returned to Medford! I was with lots of very inspiring people at the Eugene walks, but it will be nice to not add the long drive north and back to the day's activities! I'll confess the 5K seems a little more daunting this year, but over the years since my diagnosis my appreciation for Parkinson's Resources of Oregon has grown. The knowledgeable and compassionate staff are just a phone call away, and it's encouraging to know they're tirelessly advocating for us. My walk is a tribute to all the courageous people I've met because of this disease as well as a thank you to PRO. I want to raise funds so that PRO can continue providing services, educational opportunities, and emotional support to people with Parkinson’s.
Parkinson’s disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder in America, where more than 1,000,000 people live with a diagnosis. Every 9 minutes another is diagnosed. Currently there is no known cause nor cure and both symptoms and disease progression are different for every patient. The past few years have shown promising research and great advancements in care. However, there is no end to this disease on our immediate horizon. With so little known, this disease can be scary and isolating for so many.
That’s why I’m stepping out on Parkinson’s. I am committed to changing the landscape - bringing help and hope to those living with the disease. I am committed to ensuring no one has to face this disease alone.
Please consider making a donation towards our efforts-- $15, $25, $50, or, whatever you are able to do! If you can contribute something know the funds raised are used well. And if you can’t, holdgood thoughts for those walking together on September 12th for a cause we believe in.
