Team Captain Sole Mates SOLE SUPPORT - BEND

Support Me

Welcome to my Sole Support walker page.  “Sole Support” is the name of the annual walk to raise money for our many local Parkinson’s programs in Central Oregon.  It will be on Sunday, September 13, 2020. My team name is Sole Mates when you sign up and/or donate.  As you may have guessed, it will be a different experience this year compliments of covid-19!  Instead of walking as a group in Drake Park, we have 3 routes for you to choose from, that provide 1 and 5K options.  For the locals: the routes are in Pine Nursery Park, Old Mill Riverwalk, and Riley Ranch Reserve.  OR, you can choose your own route!!  You don’t have to walk on the 13th, but we encourage people to do it that day so as to have a more visible presence in the community.  If you plan to walk, there will be a drive-by pickup of the packets with t-shirt, maps, etc from 11-1pm on Sept. 12, 2020 at Ponderosa Elementary School at 3790 NE Purcell.

As most of you know, Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurological disease affecting over 1 million in the U.S.  It is the second most common neurological disease after Alzheimer’s.   At this time, it has no cure, but comprehensive treatment can delay symptoms.  Besides medications, this includes exercise, support and education, all of which we offer in Central Oregon.  For example there are PD programs for Tai Chi, dance, boxing, table tennis, etc and support/education groups in Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Madras and Hines.  These are all made possible by support from Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon (PRO) and YOUR donations.  I imagine most of you know someone who has PD and you can help their quality of life or others like them, by your donation of $10, $25, $50, $100, $500, or whatever you are able to do!  I've seen how PRO directs their funds to valuable services locally and encourage you to be as generous as you can!

I am on the Central Oregon Parkinson’s Council and encourage you to google our website https://coparkinsonscouncil.org
